MEF SCHOOLS
Our Helping Hand For Disaster Regions
MEF Schools gave a helping hand immediately after the
earthquake disasters in Turkey and shared the grief of citizens.
With the responsibility of corporate citizenship, MEF Schools
helped the sufferers of the 17 August, 1999 Gölcük and 12
November, 1999 Bolu earthquakes, working co-operatively
with the local administration of the provinces and municipal
disaster centres. Besides the needs notified by the authorities,
MEF Schools helped the sufferers by providing:
- Hot meal, snacks, cold drinks and water for 3,500 people
in Avcılar district.
- Breakfast, bread, water, cold drinks, blankets, detergents,
cologne, diapers, paper towels, baby food, gloves, masks,
candles, trash bags, lime, raincoats and umbrellas for
1,500 people in Adapazarı, İzmit, Gölcük and Yalova.
- 159 packs of blanket, clothing, food and cleaning supplies
from the teachers of MEF Schools.
- Course books, stationery and food support from the
IB students.
- Books, stationery and toys to 2,550 children surviving
the earthquake.
In addition, the teachers of foreign language department
of MEF Schools functioned as interpreters for foreign rescue
teams in disaster zones.
MEF Schools also gave a helping hand to sufferers of the
Bingöl earthquake in 2003. They organised a charity campaign
for the students of Bingöl Boarding School.
